The Library of Technical-Scientific Area welcomes people with disabilities
In today's society, despite the awareness and the various international initiatives, people with disabilities often find different types of barriers to their participation as active members of society and suffer violations of their rights in all parts of the world.
Trying to meet their needs, the Technical-Scientific Area Library welcomes and encourages the use of the library by persons with disabilities. In fact, in line with the Law 9 January 2004, No 4, commonly called the "Stanca Law", the BATS has created tools that make work possible for people with different disabilities.
As stated in the law, the Republic recognizes and protects the right of everyone to access all sources information and related services, including those that are articulated through the computer and electronic. E 'protected and guaranteed, in particular the right of access to IT and telecommunication services of public administration and public services by persons with disabilities, in accordance with the principle of equality under Article 3 of the Constitution. These and other rights are enshrined in the recent and more extensive UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (2007).
The BATS was recently acquired two new facilities to allow the use of the library by persons with disabilities. They are called "assistive technology" that can ie to facilitate the overcoming of obstacles. For example, screen readers (used by blind people in particular) that translate into sound content (structure, text and images) on a page, or special hardware designed for those with mobility problems. These include speech synthesis software JAWS allows the blind to use many computer programs, and surf the Internet.
