The Library of Technical-Scientific Area welcomes people with disabilities
The Library of Technical-Scientific Area welcomes people with disabilities
In today's society, despite the awareness and the various international initiatives, people with disabilities often find different types of barriers to their participation as active members of society and suffer violations of their rights in all parts of the world.
Trying to meet their needs, the Technical-Scientific Area Library welcomes and encourages the use of the library by persons with disabilities. In fact, in line with the Law 9 January 2004, No 4, commonly called the "Stanca Law", the BATS has created tools that make work possible for people with different disabilities.
As stated in the law, the Republic recognizes and protects the right of everyone to access all sources information and related services, including those that are articulated through the computer and electronic. E 'protected and guaranteed, in particular the right of access to IT and telecommunication services of public administration and public services by persons with disabilities, in accordance with the principle of equality under Article 3 of the Constitution. These and other rights are enshrined in the recent and more extensive UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (2007).
The BATS was recently acquired two new facilities to allow the use of the library by persons with disabilities. They are called "assistive technology" that can ie to facilitate the overcoming of obstacles. For example, screen readers (used by blind people in particular) that translate into sound content (structure, text and images) on a page, or special hardware designed for those with mobility problems. These include speech synthesis software JAWS allows the blind to use many computer programs, and surf the Internet. It is installed on a machine the computer room, and should ask for activation key and headphones at the reception. The
videoingranditore instead allows the visually handicapped to consult the texts with a variable magnification, and to use options such as changing the color of the text. It is located in the reading room on the first floor. In addition to controls on videoingranditore same, there is a mobile keyboard, to request at the circulation desk.
The BATS has two entrances for people with physical disabilities, an adjacent car parking, with a dedicated-platform stairlift (buzz), the other entrance to the platform directly in the Reading Room (on site http://bats. unical.it and 'map available). At the entrance of the lecture hall, also is a computer for browsing the catalog card for people with disabilities. Are underway for the acquisition of reading height adjustable desks for reading room and the computer room.

UniCal Convention Signed - Regional Transport
Prof. Sergio Greek, Director of DEIS (Department of Electronics, Computer and Systems Engineering) University of Calabria, and the burden. Demetrio Naccari Carlizzi, Regional Minister for Transport, have signed this morning in the Council Chamber at the Rectory, a convention that extends the range of partnerships that are involved, the Region and the University of Calabria Arcavacata.
In particular, the agreement provides that the University of Calabria, via the DEIS, the Regional Department of Transportation supports the objective of that to "increase the degree of satisfaction of users of IT and telecommunication services" through a project which allows to rationalize and optimize phases search for connections among eligible nodes in the network transport of the Calabria region. "
The agreement also provides that the DEIS, having gained considerable experience in issues related to optimization of the local public transport, ensure their cooperation to the Regional Transportation for the research, analysis and case studies to build tools so as to allow an easy use by users of information related to the transport sector.
will be the responsibility of the DEIS, finally, to ensure their support to the Regional Transportation for the development of innovative tools and solutions for the optimal use of the services public transport.
Among the most important objectives under the Convention, the contribution of the DEIS to the implementation and testing of new products / services, the testing of optimization techniques and advanced data analysis, the simplification and improvement of services provided to users to encourage training of university students and regional employees, through work experience, on issues covered by the agreement.

The International Relations Unit staff and the participants in last year's project will meet the students interested in performing training abroad in the press room of the building of the assembly hall starting at 10:00. The project
ASPE (Academic Placements Students in Europe), provides internships in foreign companies and institutions and for students of Bachelor, Specialist and one cycle of six faculty and doctoral students of this university. Mobility grants will have a minimum duration of 4 months and training will be conducted from January to September 2009.
