The conference LEND Pavia of October 23, 2006
NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY:
LEARNING TO TEACH. LANGUAGE TEACHER TRAINING

The conference in Pavia was a long conference, full-operations and food for work, especially for those who want to enter or is already in the world of teacher education. Here's what it seemed more worthy of note.

1. E ' was first presented the new European Profile for Language Teacher developed at Southampton in 2004, along with European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Inglese.
The first document is based on the European Language Teaching Project of 2002 and can be used as a reference text to develop courses and training programs for teachers, so it is a useful document for institutions and educators, but it is not in hand to give directly to trainees.
The second is a document that, along the lines of the European Language Portfolio , intended as a tool for documenting the formative stages of the future teachers of languages, encourage reflection, help us with the professionalism, facilitate self-assessment and awareness of the route taken. E 'then a document that relates specifically to the teaching, not about general skills in pedagogy nor wants to refer to the language. To simplify, we can summarize it this way:

Profile: tool for teacher educators and program planners
Portfolio : tool for trainee teachers' refection

2. We come now to the national level. Just when starting from above, but without prejudice to the fact that every country is different and has different needs, also in Italy there is an ongoing project to develop the profile of teaching languages in a European perspective. This project is coordinated by the Directorate of International Affairs of the Ministry of Education (Director: Antonio Giunta Sword) and associations of language teachers ANILS (coordination: prof. Porcelli) and LEND (coordination: Anna Maria Curci). It 'a tool that teachers should ensure professionalism and being a point of reference for trainers. Will build the profile of Southampton.

3. Already was morattiana were lying the Memorandum of Understanding between MIUR and the associations of language teachers, to provide educational materials and trainers for the courses and courses to prepare themselves. Even at Pavia was then reiterated that in regard to languages, the Ministry has its own trainers, but they must take by the associations, that they report themselves. It therefore seems almost essential to be part of one of these associations (ANILS, LEND, TESOL Italy, ADILT, AISP school) to be contacted to arrange and / or take courses for language teachers, including those brought from India. Meanwhile it is certain that the courses will continue to train teachers who can teach English in their classes: 340 hours of language (to arrive only at the level B1) + 40 hours of methodology (and that is where our potential trainers could speak ...), for a total of 380 hours spread over two years.

4. The Poseidon Project. It 's a national action research project involving the Ministry and associations, language-focused education. This project grew out of the discouraging results of the OECD-PISA reading skills and aims to involve all the teachers of languages (Italian, L2, classical languages) for a gap between know and know-how. The National Director for the Training of Ministry of Education Dr. Joseph Cosentino going to be 400 teachers 'mentor' (has nothing to do with the tutor Moratti is like saying trainer), who will work in so-called core schools to train other teachers in their turn. But it seems for now that this type of training is at the high school level.

5. Routes CLIL:
Inspector of Lombardy Gisella Lange, very active on all fronts educational innovation, has made it clear that the Ministry would give sufficient language skills to enable all teachers (and not only those of language ) to teach a specific subject in L2. We do not know where you will find resources (both human and financial) for this very ambitious project, for which there is as yet no regional or national level. And then: There will be teachers of mathematics, science, history, etc. ... willing to learn English (or another foreign language) lessons to make their subject in that language, perhaps in collaboration / connection with the coexistence of languages? Want to know if you are suited to carry out a project CLIL? Go to http://clilcom.stadia.fi
The most recent study at European level on CLIL is Eurydice, available on the EU. Meanwhile, the Lombardy got their hands on, with the publication of a profile of educational policies for the languages available on
www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/Lombardy_Profile_EN.asp # TopOfPage

6. Strasbourg has set the 2010 deadline by which all EU citizens should have acquired the basic skills. To this end, has opened a new portal for European languages http://ec.europa.eu/languages
and also a forum on the 2010 deadline: www.planet-2010.eu

In September 2006 was also processed the EQF: European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning about to enter into force and identifies eight levels of competence that can be useful even in our schools.
