BULLYING A REAL DEVIANCE

A short presentation of the book: RIFLESIONI bullying PUBLISHED BY THE PROMO & FORM, WRITTEN BY JOSEPH MARIT

- ----
It takes imagination to picture the thousand ways in which a teenager can get into trouble. Drugs of all kinds, risky sexual behavior, youth gangs, violence, and altruism on their body, employed by fashion, games, emotions.
Sometimes it is a frantic search of sensations, sometimes a strategy for disengaging from the family to create autonomy, do not give up, however, the safety provided by the peer group, with its fashions and its rituals.
How can we assess, prevent and treat these risk behaviors?
Some of the best Italian and foreign specialists wonder about these topics. There are no magic formulas. Relate to adolescents and their risk behavior requires a great overview of the problem, with the ability not to be scaring and, consequently, groped by the desire to punish. You must understand and be flexible, in order to deal with the inevitable surprises and adapt strategies to the specific appropriate, through good organization and integration of services and specialists.

what we call deviance is not simply a reflection of deep and widespread needs: the drug trade exists, for example because of an extended application of drugs, prostitution and human trafficking are spreading because of the request by part of "normal" sex mercenary. Similarly, while the official rhetoric on the one hand rejects violence, the other celebrates the catharsis through media and sport (the police, the films of karate, boxing matches and wrestling, etc..) Or through legislation (for example, the re-definition the concept of "legitimate defense" produced Italy or the U.S. legislation on firearms). In addition, child abuse is much feared but children and adolescents are often "adultizzati" and used as icons "para-sexual" by advertising or fashion shows. The examples are numerous and contradictory, suggesting the existence of a basic ambiguity that makes a range of citizens, including children, both internal and external to a system of values and practices that were potentially "deviant". This traditional proximity to deviance - more precisely this large community with the confidence of epiphenomena deviance-makes the problematization of certain malicious behavior. It is possible that these practices, the evils which now seem to be unbearable, just yesterday they were not? Or is it possible that society has for centuries brought with them these evils without notice or feel the unbearable weight? It is also possible that, as they say they are dysfunctional, they have long since caused the "end of society"?
If we accept these premises, then we understand how certain types of common discourse and professional and above all the alarms arising from them, are to be rejected in a scientific perspective. Very few of the behaviors mentioned here are In fact, a novelty and, as we can agree on their dangerousness and undesirability, we can not help but note that they are entangled in the traditional and "normal" values and behavior. Their antiquity, the so ingrained that accompanied the generations, albeit with forms and with "technical devices" different to them does not testify at all their desirability or neutrality. In particular, the reasons lie in the implications of this would be inappropriate "policies" of certain narratives. These in fact are not limited to generating unnecessary social insecurity - an event in itself undesirable - but often produce material effects: the limitations of freedom, control deployment of pervasive devices, hasty reforms of the penal code (based on urgency criteria that will prevent the political confrontation and discussion in classrooms parliamentarians), restrictive measures on the space urban spaces and the social stigmatization of vulnerable groups (for example, young people and immigrants).

This process, however, is not solely "political", ie inside the world of

makers. Rather, it is a process based on the convergence between political parties and

responsible for the production of knowledge and understanding. For example, often, though not always

, tight repression that characterized the management of the historic city center is

to advice from experienced criminologists. Media campaigns for the implementation

security - what we call euphemistically televised debates -

regularly make use of recognized experts more or less clear in psychiatry or crime.
